It may not be as chaotic as Saigon, but Hanoi ranks among the world's most attractive and interesting cities. The city's placid air gives it a gracious, almost regal flavor, underscored by a rich history that traces back more than a thousand years, a fascinating heritage on display in well-preserved centuries-old architecture. Hanoi is Vietnam's cultural center, and puppetry, music, and dance performances are well worth your time.
Full day sight-seeing tour for visits:
         * Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, to know the historical life of Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnamese former president, listed in "100 people of the century" by Time Magazine.
         * President Ho Chi Minh's house on stilts, overlooking a small pond. He stayed here from 1958 to his death in 1969.
         * One-Pillar Pagoda, first built in 1049, destroyed and rebuilt, next to the impressive Ho Chi Minh mausoleum.
         * Tran Quoc Pagoda, the oldest pagoda constructed in the 6th century, during the reign of Emperor Ly Nam De.
        * Viet Nam Ethnology Museum, opened to tourists since 1997. The museum is a typical display of 54 ethnics people group of Viet Nam and highly evaluted for its local life preservation.
      * The Temple of Literature, founded in 1070 by King Ly Thanh Tong, dedicated to Confucius and all scholars and persons of high literary accomplishment. In 1076 Quoc Tu Giam (or National University) was founded. In fact, this is the first elite university in Viet Nam and was the only place to be educated or to pass exams to enter the career of a mandarin class.
      * Enjoy one - hour cyclo tour through the winding passages of the Old Quarter, the quintessential Hanoi neighborhood and the oldest area in town, dating back to the 13th century. The Cyclo has existed in Hanoi for a long time. At first it was a rickshaw, introduced by the Japanese in 1868 and imported to Vietnam in 1983 to serve the rich. It returned as a cyclo from France to Hanoi in 1939 and became a popular means of transport in the romantic and peaceful city.
          * Ngoc Son temple (Jade Island temple), erected in the 18th century. It honors the 13th century military leader Tran Hung Dao who distinguished himself in the fight against the Yuan Dynasty. The Jade Island temple is connected to the shore by the wooden red-painted The Huc Bridge (i.e.Morning Sunlight Bridge).
        * Enjoy the performance of the water puppet show at Thang Long theatre. Water puppetry is a tradition that dates back as far as the 11th century when it originated in the villages of the Red River Delta area of northern Vietnam. The puppets are made out of wood and then lacquered. The shows are performed in a waist-deep pool. A large rod supports the puppet under the water and is used by the puppeteers, who are normally hidden behind a screen, to control them.
