Entry visa to Vietnam

Vietnam offers visa exemptions to travelers from 24 countries, e-visas to travelers from 80 countries. The travelers can also apply for tourist visas on arrival or in person at Vietnamese Embassies /or/ Consulates overseas. All the visitors must hold a passport valid for minimum of six on the entry date and at least two blank visa pages.

  1. Visa exemption:

The visa exemption is offered to citizens of 24 countries holding valid regular passports. It is able to be applied for entries at all official international border checkpoints. Length of stay in Vietnam is from 14 to 90 days from entry date, depending on the visitor’s country of origin and is for a single entry.

Regard to amendments to some articles of Law on entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam effective from July 1st 2020, the interval between the entry date and the previous exit date must be at least 30 days has been abolished.

            The visa exemption is provided for informational purpose. Please double check with official authorities in your current country before departure.

Holders of foreign passports are exempted from visa requirement for entry into/exit from Phu Quoc island with stay duration no longer than 30 days. In case of transits through another international border gate of Vietnam before entry to Phu Quoc island, they also enjoy this exemption.

  1. Electronic visa (e-visa):

The e-visa is now available to nationals of 80 countries:

Andorra, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, Croatia, Cuba, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Chile, China (including Hong Kong and Macau passports), Denmark, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Marshall Islands, Mexico, Micronesia, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nauru, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Palau, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Philippines, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Salomon Islands, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Timor Leste, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America, Uruguay, Vanuatu, Venezuela, and Western Samoa.

The e-visa takes at least 3 working days to process, costs US$25 and single entry with 1-month stay. It is issued in a pdf file.

The traveler can enter Vietnam on the e-visa at any of the country’s 8 international airports, 14 land crossings and 7 seaports. No changes can be made if only new visa is obtained.

The application can be processed through https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/. Saving registration number is necessary for checking and downloading the visa later on. Checking e-visa result via https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/tra-cuu-ho-so.

The e-visa requirements:

  • Scan of passport page in .jpg format.  
  • Scan of recent photo in .jpg format (4x6, white background, without glasses).
  • Credit/debit card for payment online.
  1. Visa prior to your arrival / Visa on arrival

Visa prior to your arrival: you can apply for the tourist visa at Vietnam Embassy /or/ Consulate in your country. This website https://visa.mofa.gov.vn/Homepage.aspx will guide you through process.

Visa on arrival: you need to have an Approval Letter from Vietnam Department of Immigration. The entry visa will be stamped locally at the Immigration office on arrival international airports and international border crossings.

Processing time of the Approval Letter: 6-7 business days; urgent processing: 1-2 working days.

Visa validity can be extended.

Documentary requirements include:

  • Valid passport.
  • Two (2) recent passport-sized photo (with a white background and no glasses).
  • One Filled-out visa application form.
  • Approval Letter (if visa pick-up at the airport).
  • Cash for stamp fee.
